How Does Video On Demand (VOD) Work in Australia?

In Australia, there are two types of VOD services.

VOD services such as Netflix, Stan, and Amazon Prime Video, allow users to select and watch video content whenever they want, without a fixed broadcast schedule. These services typically require an internet connection and a subscription fee.

There are also VOD services linked to the current Broadcast channels. You would know these as 9Now, 7Plus, 10Play, SBS on Demand and Foxtel which is a little bit different, but also offers advertising space.

Many of the current American VOD stations are looking to introduce paid advertising to reduce subscription costs.As yet, these have have not made an impact in Australia.
